General Purpose/Scope of Position

Tutor and assist students to improve their Math/Science skills.

Required Qualifications

- Strong academic record in Math/Science or related field.
- Computer literate, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

- Declared Math/Science Major or Minor.
- Tutoring experience in Math/Science.
- Knowledge of current tutoring/teaching techniques.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to interact effectively, professionally, and tactfully with students, faculty, and other University personnel. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to motivate students. Ability to prepare and present workshops to groups of students.

- Position requires keeping a work schedule of 19 hours per week.

Summary of Job Duties

Essential Duty

Tutor individuals and groups in Math/Science or related area. Facilitate learning of course material. Model effective learning and study strategies for content mastery. Keep office hours at University Learning Center (ULC) and SSSGP offices. Maintain written and computer records. Maintain confidential records. Guide students in the use of ALEKS (Math) or any math program in use at the University. Participate in on-going tutor training activities. Prepare reports. Develop and present PowerPoint workshops. Answer phones and greet students. Assist with related program activities. Assist with office duties such as making copies, filing, delivering/picking up correspondence, etc.
