Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, Education, Communication, Writing Studies, Creative Writing, or related field.
- Two or more years of experience in writing tutoring and/or supplemental instruction in a college or university Writing Center.
- Strong knowledge of English grammar, mechanics, and usage.
- Relevant experience may replace education.
- Relevant education may replace experience.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, Education, Communication, Writing Studies, Creative Writing or related field.
- College Reading and Learning Association Level 3 (Certified Master Tutor) certification.
- Three or more years of experience teaching composition or basic writing at the college and/or university level.
- Experience using technology to improve student writing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Strong research skills and ability.
- Deal oriented and ability to plan and schedule.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and work independently and with initiative.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and other university stakeholders.

Summary of Job Duties

Essential Duty

Manage tutor and supplemental instruction leader training (face-to-face, online, and group tutoring). Maintain accurate records of tutor training progress, observations, and CRLA certification.

Essential Duty

Research and implement writing tutoring theories and/or pedagogies into tutor and supplemental instruction training. Develop and keep current Writing Center writing resource materials for students (handouts, online modules, videos, etc.).

Essential Duty

Develop and schedule workshops, presentations, and summer bridge programs (such as TSI Prep, ECHS, etc.) for faculty and other university stakeholders.

Tutor students and/or facilitate supplemental instruction, on an as need basis (face-to-face, online, and/or in groups).
