Required Qualifications

- A currently Texas Principal certificate,
- A master’s degree or higher from a accredited institution of higher education.
- Possess a record of successful classroom teaching and/or administrative experience of at least ten years.
- Possess good communication skills as well as critical analytical skills in order to provide positive constructive feedback and assess candidates’ performance in the field
- Possess knowledge of Texas Education Agency standards for Texas educators
- Possess a current driver’s license and their own form of transportation to be used to travel to school sites.
- Cannot be employed a Texas school district

- Knowledge of online course forums

Other Information

- Evaluate performance of candidates in the classroom settings of local and surrounding
school districts, private schools, charter schools, alternative schools of choice, including but not limited to, Early College High Schools, Special Legislation Schools, Disciplinary Alternative Educational Programs (DAEPs), and Juvenile Justice Alternative Educational Programs (JJAEPs)
- Complete a minimum of four formal,face-to-face, classroom evaluations and conference sessions per academic school year
- Model sessions as needed, instruct candidates on effective strategies, coach and mentor candidates
- Maintain communication with the teacher interns, school principals, cooperating teacher mentors, and TAMIU ACP administrators
- Maintain records of evaluation visits and collect and summarize data for State reports
- Complete assigned teacher supervisor trainings
- Participate in and/or conduct seminars.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Summary of Job Duties

Essential Duty

The general responsibilities of the Field Based Instructor (FBI) are to conduct classroom observations, monitor instruction, and provide constructive feedback to improve classroom performance and student outcomes of teacher interns seeking initial educator certification. Responsibilities include providing structured guidance, modeling instruction, and supplying regular ongoing support in the classroom setting.
FBI’s must have the ability to conduct on-site school visits, document instructional practices observed, and provide written feedback through an interactive conference with the candidate. FBI’s are also entrusted to represent the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Alternative Certification Program (ACP) in a professional manner and should have the aptitude to establish and maintain good relationships between the university and cooperating schools, have the ability to maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively with the interns, teacher mentors, and school and university administrators.
